Who we are

TechMachines is a Sydney-based applied AI consultancy that helps banking, finance, and government organisations design, deploy, and govern AI in production — sovereignly and safely. It is led by Balaram Panda, Founder & Principal AI Architect.

Most AI advice comes from people who've read about AI. Ours comes from shipping it — inside regulated banks and government agencies, where getting it wrong is expensive and "move fast and break things" is not an option.

Where we work

Built for high-consequence environments.

Banking & finance

Accuracy, auditability, and APRA-grade governance are non-negotiable, and a single wrong decision carries real cost.

Government

Data sovereignty, onshore control, and public accountability are the baseline, not an afterthought.

Healthcare & other regulated sectors

Sensitive data and a duty of care leave no room for AI you can't trust or explain.

What they share matters more than what separates them — strict regulation, sensitive data, real security exposure, and no tolerance for getting it wrong. That is our specialism.

Definition

What sovereign AI means

Sovereign AI keeps your data and models under your control — deployed in your own environment, onshore, and never exposed to foreign-controlled systems.

For regulated Australian organisations this is the baseline for compliance, security and public trust. We have built exactly this — sovereign, on-premise and air-gapped AI inside major banks, and hybrid-sovereign environments in regulated finance — and we design for it from day one.

Our approach

Right-sized AI

We lead with the simplest approach that solves the problem, not the most fashionable one. Sometimes that's a custom agent; sometimes it's classical machine learning; sometimes it's not building at all. Knowing the difference — and being willing to say so — is what saves you from over-building and over-spending. It's also judgement you only earn in production.

FAQ

Questions we get asked

What is sovereign AI, and why does it matter for Australian organisations?

Sovereign AI keeps your data and models under your control — deployed in your own environment, onshore, and never exposed to foreign-controlled systems. For regulated Australian organisations it is the baseline for compliance, security and public trust.

Who does TechMachines work with?

Banking, finance, and government organisations, plus other regulated sectors such as healthcare. What they share matters more than what separates them: strict regulation, sensitive data, real security exposure, and no tolerance for getting it wrong.

What makes TechMachines different from other AI consultants in Sydney?

Our advice comes from shipping production AI inside regulated banks and government agencies — not from reading about it. Every engagement is delivered hands-on by the people who build the system, never handed down to a junior team.

Do you help with Microsoft Copilot, or build custom AI?

Both. We map a practical path from off-the-shelf tools like Microsoft Copilot to custom, owned systems — Adopt, Extend, Own — and we lead with the simplest approach that solves the problem.

How do you make AI safe enough for a regulated environment?

Evaluation frameworks with golden datasets, guardrails, grounded-and-cited answers, monitoring, and CI/CD release gates — the same approach adopted by 40+ AI projects at a major bank, plus sovereign or air-gapped deployment where required.

Where are you based?

TechMachines is based in Sydney, Australia, and serves organisations across Australia and New Zealand.
